At a glance

What it is, in one paragraph.

Biheldon at a glance. Praziquantel 50 mg + pyrantel embonate 150 mg per scored tablet — the same active-ingredient combination used in Drontal Cat. Covers tapeworms, roundworms, and hookworms in dogs and cats in a single dose. Does not cover lungworm, whipworm, fleas, ticks, or mites. Dose: 1 tablet per 10 kg body weight, every 3 months for adult pets (the ESCCAP UK minimum), more often for puppies, kittens, hunting/raw-fed dogs, or households with young children. £14.99 for a 30-tablet box, tracked shipping from inside the EU.

Active ingredients · safety

What's in every scored tablet.

Authorised veterinary medicine manufactured in the European Union — Drontal-analogue formulation, evidence-based active ingredients, citations included.

Cestocide · for tapeworms

Praziquantel

50 mg per tablet

Tapeworms (cestodes), including Dipylidium caninum, Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis, and Taenia species. Causes almost immediate paralysis of the parasite, which is then expelled in the stool within 24–48 hours.

Nematocide · for round & hookworms

Pyrantel embonate (pamoate)

150 mg per tablet

Roundworms (Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina) and hookworms (Ancylostoma, Uncinaria stenocephala). Poorly absorbed in the gut, which keeps the drug concentrated at the site of action and gives it a very high safety margin.

Be sure before you buy

Exactly what Biheldon does — and doesn't — cover.

A wormer that's honest about its limits is one you can plan around. Biheldon is a broad-spectrum intestinal wormer — not an all-in-one parasite product.

Covers in one dose

Tapeworms, roundworms, and hookworms — the three classes responsible for the vast majority of intestinal worm cases.

  • Tapeworms in dogs and cats (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus granulosus, Echinococcus multilocularis)
  • Roundworms in dogs and cats (Toxocara canis, Toxocara cati, Toxascaris leonina)
  • Hookworms in dogs and cats (Ancylostoma, Uncinaria stenocephala)

! Does not cover

If your pet needs cover for these, pair Biheldon with a separate product. We'd rather tell you up front.

  • Lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum) Lungworm is now endemic across much of the UK. If you live in an at-risk area, you need a monthly prescription product containing milbemycin oxime (Milbemax) or moxidectin (Advocate) on top of a 3-monthly intestinal wormer. Ask your vet.
  • Whipworm (Trichuris vulpis) Whipworm is uncommon in the UK but possible in dogs with regular access to contaminated soil. If your vet has identified whipworm on a faecal egg count, use a fenbendazole product (Panacur) or a febantel-containing combination (Drontal Tasty Bone for Dogs).
  • Fleas, ticks, and mites Biheldon is a wormer only — it contains no insecticide. Use a separate flea/tick product (e.g. a spot-on or oral isoxazoline). For households that want one product for both, ask your vet about Broadline (cats) or NexGard Spectra / Bravecto Plus (dogs).

Side by side

Biheldon vs Drontal, Milbemax, Panacur.

Per-tablet UK retail prices via Animed Direct, Pet Drugs Online, Vetscriptions (May 2026). Coverage data from the NOAH Compendium.

Product Actives Round Hook Tape Whip Lung UK Class £ / tablet
Biheldon this product praziquantel 50 mg + pyrantel embonate 150 mg Imported veterinary medicine £0.50
Drontal Cat praziquantel 20 mg + pyrantel embonate 230 mg ~ NFA-VPS £2.51
Drontal Dog Tasty Bone febantel 150 + pyrantel embonate 144 + praziquantel 50 NFA-VPS £2.69
Milbemax (Dog, 5–25 kg) milbemycin oxime 12.5 mg + praziquantel 125 mg POM-V £4.26+
Panacur (fenbendazole) fenbendazole only ~ ~ NFA-VPS sold by sachet

The honest read: Biheldon and Drontal Cat use the same active-ingredient combination at slightly different ratios. Drontal Dog Tasty Bone adds febantel for whipworm. Milbemax is the only product on this list with a UK lungworm licence — owners in endemic regions should pair an intestinal wormer with a monthly macrocyclic-lactone product. The right choice depends on your pet's specific risk profile.

Safety & contraindications

Read this before you dose.

Both active ingredients have a high safety margin. The points below cover the rare situations where Biheldon shouldn't be used, or shouldn't be used without a vet.

  • Do not exceed 4 tablets per animal per dose.
  • Do not use in puppies under 4 weeks of age or in kittens before they reach approximately 1.5 lb (700 g, around 6–8 weeks of age).
  • Consult a veterinary professional before use in pregnant or lactating animals, or animals receiving other medication.
  • Do not use in animals with a known hypersensitivity to praziquantel or pyrantel embonate.
  • Keep out of the reach of children. Store below 25 °C in the original packaging.
Veterinary advice If your pet is unwell, on long-term medication, pregnant, or under veterinary care, consult a qualified veterinary professional before use. Biheldon is for animal treatment only and is not a substitute for a clinical examination.

Now you can afford to worm your dog and cat regularly. I am so glad I decided to look for wormers on the net. The wormers from the vet were so expensive at £3 per tablet and I have four animals to worm. Since I am now able to buy these Biheldon wormers — broad-spectrum, killing a wide range of worms and their eggs — my animals are getting treated regularly. My cat was eating three small tins of food a day; she is back on one tin daily and is not continually yowling for more food. My dogs are glossy coated and not coughing anymore. Seems like they work pretty good to me. Fantastic value, happy animals, and great protection against worms.

Good job that men or women with more than one dog can affordably treat their dogs. Too many medical requirements for dogs are prescription-only, meaning you've to attend veterinary surgeries and pay ridiculous and unrealistic prices for dog treatments.

Have used this product in the past and it's excellent — also very good value for the price. Have used it on three dogs including a puppy, and none of them have had upset stomachs or sickness from them.

Seems very good value — a fraction of what local vet suppliers rip people off for.

The product is excellent and keeps my dogs worm-free. I would absolutely recommend this product to anyone who has dogs or cats.

Clinical questions

Before you dose — the questions owners ask.

Shipping, payment, and discount questions live on the FAQ page. The ones below are clinical — the questions owners ask before treating.

Does Biheldon treat fleas?
No. Biheldon is an intestinal wormer only — it contains no insecticide. To treat fleas you need a separate product, typically a spot-on (Frontline, Advantage) or an oral isoxazoline (NexGard, Bravecto). You can use a flea product and Biheldon on the same day for most pets, but stagger by 24 hours if your pet has a history of sensitivity to either.
Does Biheldon cover lungworm?
No. Lungworm (Angiostrongylus vasorum) is transmitted by slugs and snails and is now endemic across much of the UK. Treating lungworm requires a prescription product containing milbemycin oxime (Milbemax) or moxidectin (Advocate, Bravecto Plus), given monthly in at-risk areas. If you suspect lungworm — persistent cough, breathing difficulty, unexplained bleeding, lethargy — see a vet immediately.
Can I worm a pregnant or lactating dog or cat with Biheldon?
Consult your vet first. Both praziquantel and pyrantel embonate have a good safety record in pregnant and lactating animals (pyrantel embonate is poorly absorbed; praziquantel is FDA category B in humans). However, dosing during pregnancy is a clinical judgement and depends on stage of pregnancy, other medications, and your vet's protocol. Do not self-medicate a pregnant pet.
How long does Biheldon take to work?
Praziquantel acts within hours — it causes near-instantaneous paralysis of tapeworms on contact, and dead worm segments are typically passed in the stool within 24–48 hours. Pyrantel embonate paralyses roundworms and hookworms within the same window, and worms are then expelled by normal gut peristalsis. You may not see worms in the stool at all if the parasite load was low — that is normal and does not mean the treatment failed.
Is Biheldon a prescription medicine in the UK?
No. Biheldon is imported as an EU-authorised veterinary medicine and supplied directly to pet owners — no UK vet prescription is required for purchase. The active ingredients (praziquantel and pyrantel embonate) are themselves NFA-VPS class in the UK supply chain when sold by domestic brands like Drontal Cat.
What if my dog or cat vomits within an hour of the tablet?
Re-dose with the same amount, ideally with a small amount of food. Both active ingredients begin to be absorbed within 30 minutes, but a tablet that comes back up whole or partially dissolved is unlikely to have delivered a full dose. If vomiting persists beyond the first dose, stop and contact a vet — persistent vomiting is rarely caused by the wormer itself and usually points to a separate issue.
Are there any side effects?
Both active ingredients have a high safety margin. Reported side effects are rare and almost always mild and transient: occasional GI upset (soft stools, mild nausea, reduced appetite) for 12–24 hours after dosing. Serious side effects are very uncommon. If your pet shows any unusual behaviour, lethargy, persistent vomiting, or signs of an allergic reaction (facial swelling, hives, difficulty breathing) after taking Biheldon, stop further dosing and contact your vet.
Can I split a tablet for a smaller pet?
Yes. Biheldon tablets are scored on both sides so they can be split into halves or quarters for accurate dosing of pets under 10 kg. See the dosing table for the exact split by body weight. Split tablets can be stored in the blister pack for the next dose, ideally used within 28 days.
Is Biheldon safe for puppies and kittens?
Puppies from 4 weeks of age (and weighing enough for at least a quarter-tablet) can use Biheldon. The puppy schedule is every 2 weeks until 12 weeks old, then every 3 months. Kittens can use Biheldon from approximately 6–8 weeks of age, once they reach ~1.5 lb (700 g) body weight. Do not use earlier than this — both products are licensed from these ages in their UK equivalents (Drontal Cat, Drontal Puppy Suspension).
How often should I worm my pet?
ESCCAP UK recommends a minimum of four times a year (every 3 months) for adult dogs and cats with outdoor access. Push to every 2 months — or monthly — if your pet hunts, eats raw food, lives with young children or anyone immunocompromised, or you live in a high-Echinococcus area (parts of Wales, Hebrides). Puppies and kittens need worming more often during their first 12 weeks of life.
